Noticing Your Environment
I decided to write this little hint because I have seen multiple players ignore their environment on ET. I will be in spec or waiting to respawn again and watch other players get killed or lose maps because they don’t listen to what is going on. For example, I would watch a player run past a player on top of the bridge in Goldrush. The other player would be planting dyno for the 2nd barrier for the tank to go through. I would hear the dyno go down (it sounds like something dropping like boom-boom) and the player wouldn’t be paying attention and it would be set easily without any resistance. Another example is when a sniper is sitting on top of the hill in Fuel Dump. The sound of the side bridge being built and the notification on the right of your screen comes on. The sniper stays in his spot and doesn’t go to kill the player and take out the bridge with a satchel charge. Instead, he gets killed with a knife from behind, which is an embarrassing death and the enemy goes on to kill 3 other players from behind. Thus allowing the opposing team to build the main bridge to get the tank through and capture the spawn.
What I am trying to get at is always think about what you are doing. Look at your notifications on your left side of the screen…listen to your surroundings. You can hear footsteps, dyno being planted, satchel charges, where people are shooting, etc. It comes in handy and it will increase your kill ratio and your win percentage on maps, which matters most. You could save that dyno being planted if you just listen. You could hear that enemy walking up and ambush him then plant your own dyno.
As far as visually, look carefully between cracks and behind things. I have speced people many times pass right by an enemy that I spotted. The enemy comes out, shoots that person, and wins the map.
Being aware of your environment will help you become a better player. Period. You can see an improvement in your play if you practice these helpful hints. On top of that, you will hear your teams victory music, which is always the most satisfying to me.
